I have finally arrived in Minneapolis- St. Paul and I have just begun my post-doc with Prof. Forrest Fleischman at the University of Minnesota. I am studying the outcomes of restoration methods using trees outside forests (think - agroforestry to tree plantations) and I am excited to collaborate widely! If you work on restoration outside protected, get in touch!
Keep an eye on this space for more information on this research! I spoke at the Bloomberg Green Summit, an annual gathering in New York to discuss solutions for a rapidly changing planet. The panel discussion is on effective and scalable restoration projects that can drive value back to communities. Some of the questions the panel will address include - How can corporate partners ensure their restoration projects drive real climate and social progress? How can they remain committed to these efforts amid competing business priorities and increased scrutiny?
I shared the stage with three other amazing women, Sarah Charlop-Powers of Natural Areas Conservancy, Tillie Walton of the PBS show, Wild Rivers with Tillie, and Abby Danzig of Bloomberg. Watch the recording of the panel discussion here. I am pleased to share that I've accepted an offer at University of Minnesota. I will be working with Prof. Forrest Fleischman as a postdoctoral research associate to examine the enabling conditions and outcomes of trees outside forests (ToF). This project is funded by the NASA Land Cover and LAnd Use Change South Asia Research Initiative. Stay tuned from more updates from Minneapolis- St. Paul over the next few months!
Our paper on people-centric restoration was recently in the news. Check out this article on State of the Planet.
I am excited to share our new publication on people-centric restoration in npj Biodiversity. This paper, written along with Arun Agrawal, Ivan Bialey, Rohini Chaturvedi, Kyle Frankel Davis, Shalini Dhyani, Forrest Fleischman, Jonas Lechner, Harini Nagendra, Veena Srinivasan and Ruth DeFries, demonstrate a people-centric approach to help policymakers translate global restoration prioritization studies for application to a country-specific context and to identify different socio-environmental conditions restoration programs could consider when siting projects.
